Tog and Tog

Tog and Tog So why "Tog"?

On the left is me on the start line at Pomona Raceway, at the end of the Winston Select Finals on Sunday 27 October 1996.

On the right is the original Tog, as seen in a 1960s Childrens' TV programme named "Pogles' Wood".

Now then, be honest. Give Tog a baseball cap and you couldn't tell us apart, could you?

Who are you, really?

My real name is Andy Rogers. I was born in November 1963 in Streatham, London (UK). I got into drag racing in 1976 and attended my first drag race at Santa Pod Raceway in April 1977. I started Tog's Drag Racing Page, which at that time featured my spectator-side photographs, in late 1996 with some web space generously donated by my good friend Malcolm Pellett. I graduated to trackside photography in April 1998 when, thanks to the support of Fay Fischer and Barry Sheavills amongst others, I was given a Press Pass to Santa Pod Raceway on the weekend of the 21st anniversary of my first visit to SPR!

As well running as TDRP, I am involved in eurodragster.com with my good buddy Sharkman, and I'm lucky enough to have had my photographs used in racers' publicity material, in flyers and race programmes for both Santa Pod Raceway and the Ultimate Power Championship at Shakespeare County Raceway, and in the Santa Pod Racers Club Calendar for the year 2000. My pictures are also occasionally seen in motorsport publications, and they surface periodically on other people's web sites.

I have been married to Kay (also known as "Mrs. Tog", although not usually to her face) since 1991; we live twenty miles from London in Purfleet, Essex, with dog Syd.

Tog on the job How do you decide which pictures to post on TDRP?

I used to pick the best picture or two of any racer to post. However, what I do now is to post every single picture which I consider usable, regardless of how many pictures that means I end up with of one racer. This policy can, as you've probably noticed, occasionally result in pictures being posted which differ only very slightly from one another.

The reason I post everything now is partly business, to give prospective customers the chance to look at my whole catalogue, and partly because as a rabid drag racing fan myself I know that there are people out there who just can't get enough drag racing pictures. So nowadays if a particular racer is not featured, it is purely because I got no decent pictures of them.

Can I have copies of your pictures?

Feel free to download copies of any picture on TDRP for your own use. However, if you are going to use my pictures on your own web site then a short e-mail requesting permission is normally guaranteed a positive response, and a name-check and a link to TDRP is the very least you could do (mentioning no several-times NHRA Funny Car Champions' web sites) since I do, after all, retain copyright. Almost everyone goes along with this simple request and I very much appreciate it; but whilst I like to think I'm a generous chap, anyone who tries to pass off my pictures as their own work and/or steals most of my picture library and then describes it as their own "vast online image archive" (you know who you are in both instances) is, frankly, just begging to have their ISP contacted.

If you would like to buy photographic prints of any picture on TDRP, or if you would like to use any picture for publication, then please E-Mail me at tog@togsdragracing.com.
